Recommending Moloney & Kelly Ireland/Scotland DMC
I was the lucky winner of a grand prize at last year's Society Summit, which was a trip to Ireland sponsored by Moloney & Kelly. This May, I worked with them to plan a dream Ireland itinerary. Both my husband and I had explored the southern part of Ireland, so our wish was to see some new places and also dive more into the culture and traditions. We worked with a wonderful agent of theirs to design a trip that would get us to the heart and soul of the Irish people and really have some amazing experiences that your clients would likely miss out on, without their connections. Here are some incredible highlights from that trip that you might want to reach out to them about.
- The Traditional (Trad) Music Trail experience in Belfast - Absolutely one of my favorite things we did. We were able to get a private trad music show with two musicians and a dancer. Not only did they delight us with music and the unbelievable dancer, they patiently explained the nuances of trad music, answered millions of my questions and patiently taught me some of the dances. Super fun - very group and family friendly too.
- Traditional storytellers - Again, one of my favorite things we did. This is not your average tour or guide... There is a movement to bring back traditional art forms in Ireland, and we had two amazing storytellers on different parts of the trip. We really loved Rab, whom we met for some whiskey tasting in Galway. These storytellers captivate with stories of their history, myths and folktales. Again, super fun to spend time with these people learning about the traditions of storytelling, along with the stories themselves.
- Sheepdog experience - Another, wonderful experience was going out into the Connemara countryside to visit a local farm where they raise and train sheepdogs. It was super cool watching these animals work seamlessly with their owner just with a few whistles and words. Plus, you can tell those dogs live for the work they do. It was amazing to watch them, plus the countryside is stunning there.
- Belfast political murals tour - Incredibly interesting to hear about the ongoing political struggle in Northern Ireland. Being there, hearing the stories, seeing the evidence of the continued division is a revelation. I do hope that they will someday all come together and the sights we saw in relation to that will become more of a thing of history, much like the Berlin Wall. For clients interested in history, this is a fascinating tour.
- Dromoland Castle - We were upgraded to a turret honeymoon suite thanks to M&K, and I felt nothing short of a princess. During our stay we did as much as we could - falconry, archery, biking, a private picnic, massages at the spa (they have one of the best post treatment experiences ever), and a tasting dinner at the Earl of Thurmond restaurant. Everything was exceptional and the grounds are simply stunning.
- Other amazing things we did that would be friendly for all ages and worthy of a mention - Silverworks Claddaugh ring making, Connermara pony rides along the Wild Atlantic Coast, Sliabh League boat tour (nearest to Donegal).
Let them know you heard about them from me and at the Society Summit!
