Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) is information about the people who directly or indirectly own or control a company. The US Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) of 2021 requires FinCEN to maintain a centralized, nonpublic database of BOI that is accessible to national security, law enforcement, and financial institutions agencies. 

The BOI reporting rules went into effect on January 1, 2024.
