Japan

Japan is one of my biggest weaknesses - I really don't know it well at all. Some of my closest friends (a couple) are asking me to help them with a trip to Japan for this fall and asked if it was reasonable to plan a week for $8k or less? Obviously, there are so many factors to consider, but as a general rule, is that reasonable or not? I have heard that Japan can be exceedingly expensive when booked with a supplier but fairly reasonable when you piecemeal it. Piecemealing it would be hard for me since I don't know it very well. Anyone have advice? I'd offer this as a referral, but these really are close friends and I'd rather take care of it for them myself.

Thanks everyone - this forum has become quite helpful! I appreciate everyone's input. I think it's off the table for now based on these responses, as they were hoping to do it for $8k including flights. Now on to new ideas...
