Delayed luggage

I have a client that recently had her luggage delayed by three days. The airline told her that she would have to come and get it herself becasue they are no longer required to deliver it to her. Is that true?

We have friends who flew from KOA to IAH on Sunday night (Jan 5th-arriving Jan 6th) to go MD Anderson for medical issues. Their luggage did not show and the airlines provided no help in finding the luggage or getting it to them. After numerous calls to the airline (UA) who stated they could not find their luggage, their hired driver literally went to the airport on Tuesday afternoon and told the luggage people that he was going to sort through the luggage and found both suitcases. Who knows how long it would have been before they would have received their luggage if he would not have done that.
