Travel credits being stolen - new scam to be aware of

Due to lack of security at many of the US and Canada airlines, there has been a rash of theft by deception lately. This also highlights the risk of sharing on FB/IG and other social media apps too much information. Please ask your clients not to post boarding passes/itineraries that show their confirmation number, full names or itineraries on public facing groups. How? someone posts an item in a facebook group (like AA Executive Plantinum group) about where they are flying to see if someone wants to meet up in CLT. A thief sees that and sees their name, calls in to AA or uses Twitter to ask to cancel the reservation. They are given the trip credit number, they then go in and use that number to book a flight for themselves/someone else who paid them. There were 4 people I know this happened to 3 weeks ago in one of our groups....we used to share where we were to meet up with other members, the group admin shut that down when this started happening. AA and Air Canada finally implemented some 2 factor authentication in the past few weeks, and here is an aricle about this happened to another couple. https://www.cbc.ca/news/gopublic/air-canada-credit-stolen-1.7524525?cmp=rss

Thanks for the info. In the case of the Canadian couple, I guess the only way to know your email has been hacked is to sign in and find you can't and do the same forgot password option and change password, but the damage has already been done.

What a mess, just the way things are happening these days. Hopefully the 2 step authentication will fix this
