Rocky Mountaineer FAM Feedback

Hi Everyone,

I just returned from a FAM with Rocky Mountaineer and wanted to provide some feedback. Overall it was a great experience and I wouldn't hesitate to sell them after going on the trip. I was in the GoldLeaf (the higher/more expensive) service and it was really great- the seats were comfortable, the food was amazing (much better than I expected), and I was concerned about being bored but that wasn't the case (they are long days though, 10-12 hours on the train). If possible, I think I would recommend starting in Vancouver so that the scenery gets better as the trip goes on. Something to note- there are early wakeups (if I recall correctly we had to be ready by 7am the first day and 6am the second day). They say this is a great trip for people who enjoy cruising, and I can see the comparison. The trips aren't cheap, but they also do stay at pretty nice properties pre/post trip. I definitely recommend the GoldLeaf service since you spend less time in your seat- you eat meals in a dining car (vs. at your seat in Silver) and there's an outside platform where you can get fresh air and watch the scenery (SilverLeaf doesn't have this), and you get better accommodations. SilverLeaf would be better for those with mobility issues since GoldLeaf requires going up and down stairs to get to the second floor (and when going to the bathroom or the dining car or viewing platform). If you ever have any specific questions, please feel free to reach out!

Thanks for the review. I just came back from the Vancouver to Lake Louise tour.

I really enjoyed it as well. We were in Silver Leaf. Yes the days were long and agreed that I never got bored. So scenic. I did nod off a couple of times 😃

Silver Leaf used the Hampton inn in Vancouver which was much nicer than I thought it would be and a great location. In Kamloops there isn't a 5 star experience and the hotels they use are fine. You are there for a short night anyway. In Lake Louise, they put us at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. It was gorgeous. The Gold level would have been nice, but quite a bit more money. I would highly recommend as well. It is pricey for sure.
