Kimpton - Barcelona, Marbella, Mallorca

I recently went on an outstanding fam trip with IHG with a small group of Virtuoso advisors, as well as Lindsey Dollahon (Global Luxury & Lifestyle Sales Director, US West, and our listed contact in the vendor directory, Lindsey.Dollahon@ihg.com). Many of the arrangements and details were fine-tuned by David Rubio (Cluster Luxury & Leisure Director of Sales, based out of Barcelona but handling all 3 properties, david.rubio@kimptonvividorahotel.com). In short, we were treated very well, the itinerary was incredibly reasonable, and I enjoyed all 3 unique properties and the destinations. Here's a brief breakdown of each property:

Kimpton Vividora - Barcelona

Great location in the Gothic Quarter, a couple blocks off La Rambla and very close to Passeig de Gràcia (shopping and some of the high end hotels). There is some bustle but generally speaking I thought the noise was pretty minimal at night for how in the thick of things…

Daytrip - Hit or Miss

Daytrip has some really good global coverage at reasonable prices (usually), but I have had very mixed experiences with them. Many of my point-to-points in Europe and South America have gone well, BUT I am working with a group right now who have about 20 arrival transfers from Heathrow...and many have not gone well.

Daytrip states: For airport pick-ups, the driver will be waiting for the clients at the arrival hall associated with their flight number, holding a sign with their name on it. Most drivers have not been in the arrivals hall, and those who have had a name on their phone at best (i.e., tiny). Some clients have had a hard time finding the drivers. One driver even left when he only had 2 of 4 people on the manifest!

Overall not great. This could simply be a London and/or Heathrow specific issue, but it has me concerned…

To follow up on my own post...this situation has been a continual nightmare at Heathrow. I had a driver call ME thinking I was a traveler, which means Daytrip messed up and provided them with my contact info instead of the client's. Several folks have ended up grabbing Ubers because they couldn't connect with drivers. Bad news all around. The Daytrip team has been...apathetic in our communications.

Travel Insured

Hi, I am looking for feedback on Travel Insured - is anyone working with them? I have been hearing from several other advisor friends about them, and see they are in our vendor network, though not a preferred partner. I just pulled a quote and it is about $300 lower than my usual go-to for insurance, but wonder if anyone has first-hand experience.

Rocky Mountaineer FAM Feedback

Hi Everyone,

I just returned from a FAM with Rocky Mountaineer and wanted to provide some feedback. Overall it was a great experience and I wouldn't hesitate to sell them after going on the trip. I was in the GoldLeaf (the higher/more expensive) service and it was really great- the seats were comfortable, the food was amazing (much better than I expected), and I was concerned about being bored but that wasn't the case (they are long days though, 10-12 hours on the train). If possible, I think I would recommend starting in Vancouver so that the scenery gets better as the trip goes on. Something to note- there are early wakeups (if I recall correctly we had to be ready by 7am the first day and 6am the second day). They say this is a great trip for people who enjoy cruising, and I can see the comparison. The…

Thanks for the review. I just came back from the Vancouver to Lake Louise tour.

I really enjoyed it as well. We were in Silver Leaf. Yes the days were long and agreed that I never got bored. So scenic. I did nod off a couple of times 😃

Silver Leaf used the Hampton inn in Vancouver which was much nicer than I thought it would be and a great location. In Kamloops there isn't a 5 star experience and the hotels they use are fine. You are there for a short night anyway. In Lake Louise, they put us at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. It was gorgeous. The Gold level would have been nice, but quite a bit more money. I would highly recommend as well. It is pricey for sure.
